Pets are loving and loyal members of the family who make you laugh, keep you company, and are happy to share in your joy. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that pet parents are doing more to include their companions when celebrating special events.

Whether it’s making a cake for your dog’s birthday or including your cat in family portraits for the holidays, there are a host of ways to have fun with your buddy. And, beyond the day-to-day memorable occasions that pets are a part of, more and more couples are making sure their furry friends are included in their wedding festivities, too.

According to Rover and their Pet-Friendly Wedding Report, a high percentage of couples in both the United States and Canada are willing to have their dogs and cats play a role in their wedding.

Let’s start with U.S. couples. In May 2023, Rover surveyed 1,000 U.S. pet parents who were engaged or who got married recently. Results showed that 81% of the couples who were already engaged or were expecting to become engaged planned on having their pet be a part of the event when they got married. Also, 72% of those surveyed said they’d even take certain people off their guest list to include their companion instead. And 56% of those surveyed said that they’d walk down the aisle with their pet if they had the option.

Similar results were found when Rover surveyed 500 engaged or married Canadian pet parents in May 2023. They found that 75% of those who were expecting to become engaged or who were already engaged were planning on having their pet be a part of their big day in some way. In addition, 86% of those surveyed said they’d remove guests to include their pet. And 48% of them said they’d walk down the aisle with their furry friend at their side if they could.

These are just some of the interesting findings from Rover’s surveys, which clearly show that there are a lot of people out there who love their pets so much, and consider them such an important part of their lives, that they want them to be a part of their special day. So, if you’ve been thinking about including your dog or cat in your wedding celebration, rest assured that you aren’t alone, and there are plenty of cute and creative ways that you can go about doing so.
